About EquationQuest Play

How it works

EquationQuest turns early algebra into something you can see and do. The big idea: an equals sign is a balance — whatever you do to one side, you do to the other, until the variable is alone.

  • Balance Scale — solve for x by choosing a move that happens to both sides. The scale stays balanced the whole way; when x is alone, you can read off the answer.
  • Algebra Tiles — cancel zero-pairs (a tile and its opposite make zero) and combine like terms with color-coded tiles, then name the simplified expression.
  • Spot the Slip — read a worked solution where exactly one step breaks a rule, find it, and say why. Naming a mistake is the fastest way to stop making it.
  • Concept kits — 16 short question rounds, from writing expressions to systems of equations.

Our privacy promise

EquationQuest Play is free, works offline, and collects nothing. No accounts, no ads, no tracking, and no data ever leaves your device — your progress, level, and streak are saved only in this browser.

Mistakes are part of it

You never lose anything for a wrong try. A move that doesn't help just stays balanced, wrong answers get a gentle explanation, and hints teach you how to think it through — not just the answer. That's how algebra actually clicks.
