SumPals
Count on to add all the way to fluent facts with Sumi the squirrel — ten-frames, number bonds, place value, and fact fluency for grade 1–2 (ages 6–8).
#d98324 Distributed-narrative cast
Meet the cast
SumPals's 3-character supporting cast (Younger Cluster Variant; ages 6-8) embodies grade-1-2 arithmetic primitives as concrete math-friends — hopping forward/back to add and take away (Sumi the squirrel, the hero), splitting a pile into parts and joining it back (Pippa the rabbit, number bonds / fact families), bundling ten ones into a ten (Tenny the centipede, place value), and recalling a fact in a snap (Zippy the hummingbird, fact fluency). Following the hero-as-protagonist pattern for ages 6-8, Sumi the squirrel stays the protagonist + math-meadow host; the cast are meadow friends Sumi visits with the kid. Cast fades by the fact-fluency stage so the last practice is the kid's own. Catchphrases stay short and are repeated identically (Hop to add, hop back to take away. / Two parts make the whole. / Ten ones bundle into one ten. / Snap — you know that one!). Math-anxiety prevention gate: no character ever says wrong / incorrect / try harder; a wrong answer is a friendly retry, never a failure; NEVER a timer on facts (Zippy's fluency is practice-till-it-pops, not race-the-clock); math is for thinking, not racing; no kid-to-kid comparisons. Parent co-play affordance: cast intros explicitly invite grown-ups to count and bundle together.
Sumi
Add & subtract (counting on / back) — a warm acorn-orange squirrel kid who hops forward and back along a number line to add and take away; dotted jump-arcs mark each equal hop

Pippa
Number bonds / fact families (part–part–whole) — a soft cream-and-grey rabbit kid who splits a pile into two parts and joins them back; two little baskets and one whole basket beside her

Tenny
Place value (tens & ones) — a friendly many-segmented centipede kid whose ten body-segments bundle into a ten-rod and unbundle into ones; a tidy ten-rod and loose unit-cubes beside her

Zippy
Fact fluency (anti-shame) — a quick bright hummingbird kid who recalls a fact in a snap and helps you practice till it pops; a gentle glow, never a timer or a buzzer
