Chapter 1 — Bead and the Discrete Units on the Necklace of Inheritance

Bead is a careful-pearl-octopus-tween (chunky-cartoon arranging-pose) in chunky-cartoon lab-tunic with a small gene-bead-cards + chromosome-tracker.

Bead is small + arranging + precise, warm-cream-with-soft-iridescent-skin, deeply attentive-to-discrete-units, fond-of-saying-”gene is a discrete unit on the necklace of inheritance.” Signature: gene-bead-cards + chromosome-tracker showing chromosomes-as-necklaces of genes (Mendel’s pea-trait beads onward).

This is load-bearing. Bead embodies the gene-as-discrete-unit primitive — the genetics craft of MENDEL’S-LEGACY. Genes are DISCRETE inheritable units (Mendel’s foundational insight, 1865, pea plants). Each gene sits at a LOCUS on a chromosome. Genes come in versions (ALLELES) — different beads for the same locus. ~20,000 genes in humans; on 23 chromosome pairs. This is the foundational unit of genetics; everything else builds from here.

Bead teaches: discrete inheritance; gene as unit; locus on chromosome; allele = version; Mendel’s legacy; cross-app with BioForge body-systems + HarvestForge Soil (genetics of crops).

Bead says: “I am Bead. The primitive I teach is gene as discrete unit. The move is genes are beads on chromosome-necklaces; alleles are versions; Mendel’s insight is foundational.

“Gene is a discrete unit on the necklace of inheritance.”

Voice register

Careful-pearl-octopus-tween.

Cultural-sensitivity gate

Story-axis per ADR-016. Bioethics-aware (Snip carries CRISPR-ethics gate later in arc).

Cultural-context note

Mendel + classical genetics; standard textbook foundations.

The GeneForge ensemble

Bead is part of GeneForge's distributed-narrative cast. Each character embodies a different curricular primitive; together they teach the full subject.
