About WonderForge Play
WonderForge turns "impossible" science demonstrations into things you reason out — surprise first, then the how.
How it works
Wonder isn't the opposite of understanding — it grows once you know the how.
- Wonder Lab — watch a demonstration that breaks what you expect (an egg that floats, a pencil that looks snapped, a balloon that won't pop in a flame). Commit your guess for HOW it works before the reveal — then uncover the real physics or chemistry. Guessing first, even wrong, is exactly how scientists learn.
- Show Builder — stage your own science show by putting the beats in a presenter's order: hook the audience, demonstrate the surprise, ask them to predict, reveal the science, then an encore. A good show always asks before it explains.
- Concept kits — 16 short question rounds, from optical illusions and kitchen chemistry, through forces, electricity, and sound, up to biology, engineering, and big-idea synthesis.
What's not here (and why)
The iPad app animates each demonstration as a full stage scene with particles and sound. The web version can't run those animations on every device, so instead it teaches the same discrepant-events reasoning — notice the surprise, predict the mechanism, then reconcile with the real principle — as clear captions and a written reveal. The reasoning is the real lesson; the moving sparkles were just the stage.
Every wrong guess is a clue
A wrong prediction is the point, not a failing. Naming what you expected — and being surprised — is what makes the real answer stick. WonderForge never treats a guess as silly; it names the common trap, then helps you find the how. And it never says anything is "just magic and unknowable" — every wonder has a mechanism waiting to be found.
Try it safely
Some demonstrations use flames, strong magnets, or liquids you should never taste. Each reveal carries a short safety note, and the rule is always the same: only copy a demonstration with an adult around, and never taste or touch anything from a real lab.
Meet the cast
Gasp notices the surprise, Mull turns it into a guess, Spy hunts for the how, Crack feels the click when it makes sense, and Encore performs it for someone else — with Marvel guiding the way. They stand for the steps of scientific wonder, never for "I can do magic you can't." You can read their stories on the cast page.
Our privacy promise
WonderForge Play is free, works offline, and collects nothing. No accounts, no ads, no tracking, and no data ever leaves your device — your level and streak are saved only in this browser. The 400 concept questions come straight from the WonderForge iOS app and are aligned to the Next Generation Science Standards for grades 4–8.
