For grown-ups
What your child practices
TallyTots builds the very first number sense for ages 3–4 — the foundations that come before counting worksheets: feeling how big a number is, seeing small amounts at a glance, knowing what comes next, and counting things one at a time.
- Hop the Path — hop Ribbet along a straight, numbered 1-to-10 path. Farther along means a bigger number. This "number line" is one of the most-studied early-math activities: hopping along a straight path (not a circle) helps children build a mental number line and get ready to add.
- Quick Look — see a little group of dots and say how many, without counting one by one (subitizing). The dots switch between dice, a ten-frame, a line, and a scatter, so it's real recognition — not a memorized picture.
- One More, One Less — find the number that is one more or one less. This is the idea that every number is just one step from the next (the successor idea).
- Count the Clutch — touch each egg once as it hatches (one thing, one number), then say how many in all — the last number you count is the total.
Play together
These are lovely to do side by side. Count out loud together, point at the dots and the pads, and celebrate the tries. There is no timer and no racing — counting is for thinking, not speed.
Mistakes are welcome
Ribbet never says "wrong". A tricky one just gets a warm "let's hop it together", and every round finishes with encouragement about the effort. Big buttons and few words are made for little hands and children who don't read yet.
