For grown-ups
What your child practices
SumPals teaches grade 1–2 arithmetic the way classrooms do — with hands-on models first, then the numbers (the concrete-pictorial-abstract path). Every answer is worked out from the model, so your child understands the math, not just memorizes it.
- Ten-Frame Add & Subtract — fill and empty ten-frames to add and take away within 20, using the "make ten" strategy.
- Number Bonds — split a whole into two parts and put them back together (part-part-whole, the root of fact families).
- Tens & Ones — bundle ten ones into a ten-rod with base-ten blocks, and read two-digit numbers.
- Add & Subtract to 100 — hop along the number line with bigger, two-digit numbers.
- Fact Fluency — practice facts until they "pop" — with no timer and no leaderboard, ever.
No clock, no pressure
Timed drills are a leading cause of math anxiety, so SumPals never uses a timer or a race. Fluency here means "practice till it pops" — your child gets faster because they understand, not because a clock is ticking.
Mistakes are welcome
Sumi never says "wrong". A tricky one just gets a warm "let's count it out", and every round finishes with encouragement about the effort. Big buttons and simple words are made for little hands and new readers.
