How it works

MathLore lets you explore the history of mathematics the way it really unfolded — meeting the people who invented number, proof, zero, and algebra, and solving the problems that shaped their world.

• Era Quest — visit five eras of mathematical civilization. Read what each was like, take the mathematicians' own problems as an era challenge, and step into a decision to see what followed — there is no single right answer; history had consequences either way.
• Discovery Timeline — put the great discoveries in order, earliest first. You order by what you know; the dates are revealed when you check, so you learn when mathematics grew.
• Concept kits — 16 short question rounds, from ancient number systems to advanced synthesis.

Mathematics from everywhere

Mathematics was invented many times, in many places — in Africa, Mesopotamia, India, the Islamic world, Mesoamerica, and East Asia, not just one corner of the world. MathLore names those traditions with respect, credits the cultures whose discoveries are often left out, and honors the historical mathematicians as themselves. You never lose anything for a wrong try; wrong answers get a warm explanation, and hints teach you how to think it through.
