DigQuest on the web is built the same way as our iOS apps: private by design.

Everything stays on this device

Your progress — best scores and XP — is stored only in this browser (on-device storage). It is never sent anywhere. Clear your browser data and it's gone; nobody else can see it.

No accounts, no ads, no tracking

There is no sign-up and no login. There are no ads and no in-app purchases. There are no third-party trackers embedded in the app.

How it works

In the Excavation Grid, you uncover a stratified dig site and use the Law of Superposition — deeper layers are older, when the ground is undisturbed — to work out which finds are older and put a site's story in order. You predict first, then the layers are revealed. In the Artifact Lab, you study an artifact's material, form, and where it was found, then reason out roughly when it was made, which culture made it, and what it was for. Or run a Concepts kit: a short round of questions. A hint appears only after a first try, so you think it through first — and mistakes are treated as part of learning.

Respect for real cultures

The civilizations DigQuest studies have living descendants today, and many of their sites remain sacred. Archaeologists work in partnership with those communities, who have authority over their ancestors and belongings. DigQuest never frames the past as treasure to take, never glamorizes looting, and never invents what an object "must have meant" — we keep what people said about their own things and hold our guesses with humility. There is no gameplay involving human remains.

Built for ages 9–14

The 400 Concepts questions come straight from the DigQuest iOS app and are aligned to national social-studies and science standards (C3 Framework, NCSS, NGSS science practices, grades 4–8). Everything works with the sound off and can be played entirely by keyboard. Meet the cast and read their stories at the cast page.
